Crown Point Junior Music Academy
Project Scope
Whole Site Modernization and New 2-Classroom Building
San Diego, CA
San Diego Unified School District
The modernization of Crown Point Junior Music Academy will provide the required spaces per District Educational Specifications and standards, as well as improve relationships between support spaces and classrooms. Buildings will be upgraded with new finishes and abandoned equipment will be removed. Classrooms will have existing casework replaced with flexible furniture. All support and security technology will be added to the site, including classrooms, offices and support spaces.
Based upon current and projected attendance, the campus will need an additional 3 classrooms. A new 2-classroom building is proposed with 1 Kindergarten classroom and 1 T-K classroom.
The existing Administration and main campus entry on busy Ingraham Street will be moved near the parking lot and drop off which faces the quieter Pacific Beach Drive. The Administration offices will be modernized to provide Music and Suzuki Music classrooms, and a brand-new makerspace.
These are extensive upgrades, and will require roof, HVAC, fire sprinklers, and new partition layouts. All doors and frames are to be replaced to accommodate card reader accessibility. New dual-pane glass windows with internal blinds will also be installed. The site will be upgraded with new parking and drop off, new play equipment, and improved fire access. Accessible barriers will be removed within the buildings and around the site.
Construction of this phased project is tentatively slated to start in Spring 2023.
