Pacific Rim Elementary School

Project Scope

Comprehensive Campus-Wide Renovations, New Construction, Flexible Outdoor Learning Space
Carlsbad, CA
Carlsbad Unified School District

Pacific Rim Elementary School, part of Carlsbad Unified School District, is undergoing a comprehensive campus transformation led by StudioWC to deliver innovative, sustainable learning environments aligned with the district’s educational vision.

The project replaces eleven aging portable classrooms with two new permanent buildings designed to enrich both academic and extracurricular programs. A new 12,200-square-foot classroom building will be thoughtfully integrated with the existing STEAM facility, creating a cohesive academic hub with flexible learning spaces, outdoor connections, and an adjacent open-air learning environment that supports collaboration, exploration, and hands-on instruction.

A second 3,300-square-foot building will house the school’s music and after-school care programs. Featuring a dedicated entry from the adjacent parking lot, the design streamlines parent pick-up and drop-off, reduces campus congestion, and enhances student safety while providing creative, adaptable spaces for extended learning.

Campuswide outdoor improvements further elevate the school environment, including a solar-shaded structure with battery storage, reconfigured hardcourts for improved supervision and functionality, and multiple outdoor learning areas that support diverse instructional activities. Additional upgrades—such as drought-tolerant landscaping, new perimeter walls and fencing, and comprehensive fire alarm and security enhancements—reinforce the district’s commitment to sustainability, safety, and long-term stewardship.

Together, these improvements reimagine Pacific Rim Elementary as a modern, inspiring, and future-ready campus that fosters creativity, collaboration, and meaningful learning for generations of students.
