The latest addition to the StudioWC design team, Guy brings six years of experience in architectural design. His expertise spans from conceptualization to the full realization of diverse projects, including commercial spaces, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, government buildings, public spaces, and residential structures. Guy’s design philosophy combines creativity, functionality, and emotional engagement to create compelling and aesthetically pleasing environments.

As a seasoned designer, Guy has successfully tackled a wide array of large scale commercial ventures, ranging from schools and hospitals to even missile launch facilities. Recently, he was deeply involved in the design development of a high school project for PUSD while simultaneously overseeing construction administration for a China Lake Navy project.

Personal Story

Guy Hartwig grew up in the charming town of Yakima, nestled in eastern Washington. His childhood was filled with outdoor adventures—hiking, camping during the warm summers, and skiing down snowy slopes in the winter. From an early age, Guy’s father strongly influenced him. “He has a quiet competence, excelling in various skills and talents without being boastful. He built my family’s ski cabin in northern Washington, which as a kid, I found incredibly cool,” Guy said. That experience also ignited his interest in construction and building.

A visit to Seattle around age 12 was what truly shaped his career trajectory. “The ‘Experience Music Project’ (EMP), designed by architect Frank Gehry, left an indelible mark on me. EMP’s twisted steel form, resembling folded paper more than a conventional building, challenged my perception of architecture. It was my first encounter with a non-square structure, and it revolutionized my thinking,” he said.

Guy takes immense pride in the diversity of projects he’s worked on. From tiny backyard accessory dwelling units (ADUs) to expansive school campuses, each endeavor has contributed to his growth as a designer. This well-rounded experience fuels his passion for creating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces.

When asked to relate an unusual experience, he replied, “I once worked as a kayak guide for Blue Whale Tours out of San Diego. Paddling alongside these magnificent creatures was both exhilarating and humbling—an experience I’ll cherish forever.”

Guy’s plans include becoming a licensed professional. “In five years, I envision myself immersed in the serene wilderness, constructing my own cabin—a haven tucked away in the woods, where creativity and nature intertwine.”
