San Ysidro High School
Project Scope
New NJROTC Building
San Diego, CA
Sweetwater Union High School District
To accommodate a growing Naval Junior ROTC program at San Ysidro High School that had been housed in detached, aging and undersized relocatable buildings, a new 5,280 s.f. modular building was designed and constructed to provide a state-of-the-art facility to serve the program now and into the future. Dealing with challenging site constraints, the new building is re-oriented to face the campus and to provide a direct connection, allowing student access without leaving the secure campus.
A new cool surface regulation drill pad, fitness & rifle toss area are provided for the award-winning drill, rifle & color guard teams. In addition to four high-tech classrooms, the facility provides staff offices, boys and girls restrooms, locker/changing rooms, uniform storage, armory, and an all-gender restroom. Modular construction on a permanent concrete foundation is utilized for cost savings. Building signage, a drill yard logo, new flagpole, shade trees, benches, accessibility improvements, and new campus marquee are included to improve site access, enhance school identity and to provide well deserved recognition to this successful JROTC program.
