Pepper Drive School
Project Scope
New Administration and Learning Resource Center Building
El Cajon, CA
Santee School District
The LRC at Pepper Drive School provides a connection between the elementary and middle school campuses, with soft divides that ensure safety and separation between upper and lower grades, without the addition of fences and obvious obstructions. Two outdoor learning courtyards are easily supervised, serving as the social and educational center between the grades. Interior spaces provide collaboration space for all students and staff. The library functions as a technology space beyond the traditional library confines, with an environment that is engaging and fun. The technology classroom called the “Teen Zone”, is just off the main book area and is accessed both through the library, and an exterior courtyard space dedicated for only junior high students during the day. Keeping with the theme of passive security, the Teen Zone is easily monitored from the library and allows students to collaborate and socialize in a “place of their own”.
