Professional Profile
Joelyn Brickner has worked in marketing as a graphic designer, copywriter and editor for over 23 years. She employed her creative talents in print and digital formats developing advertising for hundreds of businesses during her 9-year tenure the San Diego Union-Tribune. From 2010 to 2017, she worked in the financial services industry, creating corporate collateral and website content. Next came a two-year stint working for national welding leader, Lincoln Electric, and most recently Brotman Law, a San Diego firm specializing in Federal and CA tax law.
Joining StudioWC in late 2022, Brickner is quickly learning the ropes behind educational architecture and is already helping us to develop proposals and further promote our firm’s experience modernizing, constructing and designing southern California TK-12 schools.
Personal Story
Both “Yooper” and “Troll,” Joelyn was born in Michigan’s Upper Pennisula half a Finn, and when her parents moved to Ann Arbor, she learned to speak Wolverine.
After graduating high school, she went to work full time for ADP then State Farm, dabbled in a few liberal arts courses in a local community college and eventually went to Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts in Detroit.
Graduating and garnering a year’s worth of radio and video studio experience plus her FCC license, she moved to New York City. There she found the position as technical coordinator for a marketing firm called Aniforms.
After three years of working in NYC, Jo moved to San Diego, got married and had a baby boy. She also decided to finish her bachelor’s degree. After touring SDSU’s School of Art, Jo translated her interests in art, writing and technology into a bachelor’s degree in applied arts and sciences.
Since then, Jo has worked for a variety of industries, using her skills as a creative services professional. She happily accepted the marketing manager role with SWC in November 2022 and plans to spend at least the next five years supporting the firm with her work while learning all she can.
In free hours, Jo enjoys the company of her Schnoodle dog Fergus Frasier, her husband David their Maine Coon, Sammie. She also does yoga, plays tennis, enjoys traveling, painting, and listening to audible books of all genres.
