Crown Point Junior Music Academy

Project Scope

Whole Site Modernization and New 2-Classroom Building
San Diego, CA
San Diego Unified School District

The modernization of Crown Point Junior Music Academy successfully delivered the required spaces in accordance with District Educational Specifications and standards, while improving the relationships between support spaces and classrooms throughout the campus. Existing buildings were upgraded with new interior finishes, obsolete equipment was removed, and classrooms were enhanced with flexible furniture in place of outdated casework. New support and security technology was integrated campus-wide, including classrooms, offices, and support spaces.

To support current and projected enrollment needs, the project added a new 2-classroom building consisting of one Kindergarten classroom and one Transitional Kindergarten classroom.

A major component of the project included relocating the Administration and primary campus entry away from busy Ingraham Street to a new location adjacent to the parking lot and student drop-off along the quieter Pacific Beach Drive frontage. The Administration building was modernized to include new Music and Suzuki Music classrooms, as well as a new makerspace designed to support collaborative and creative learning opportunities.

The completed modernization also included comprehensive infrastructure and life-safety upgrades, including new roofing, HVAC systems, fire sprinklers, and reconfigured interior partition layouts. All doors and frames were replaced to accommodate card reader accessibility, and new dual-pane windows with integrated blinds were installed throughout the campus. Site improvements included upgraded parking and drop-off areas, new play equipment, enhanced fire access, and the removal of accessibility barriers within both the buildings and the site overall.
