Personal Story

Laura Badur is a midwestern transplant to Southern California. She spent most of her childhood in Minnesota and moved to the San Diego area in high school.

Laura took her first drafting class in the 9th grade, which introduced her into the architectural profession. “At the time, I was also the only girl enrolled,” she recalled. She started her college career in Civil Engineering, but quickly realized she had interests in both arts and engineering. So, the field of architecture married those two together for her.

After graduating, she immediately started working for an architectural firm and got a good foundation learning to manage projects and what the business side of architecture looked like. She also started adjusting her career path to eventually work only upon school design. “I’ve worked in every discipline you can imagine for architecture. Residential housing to military to corporate and now schools. I’ve basically done it all,” she said.

Laura has traveled extensively throughout her life, both domestically and overseas. She has visited most major European cities, especially loving Norway for its Scandinavian designs. She has also traveled through Asia (the image to the right shows her at the Great Wall of China) and for a cultural experience, she enjoyed her stay in Japan the best.

As a mother to a toddler and Labradoodle, Laura still tries to find time to travel with her family. When not working or on the road, she enjoys DIY projects and hobby crafts as creative outlets.
