Olivenhain Pioneer Elementary School
Project Scope
Energy Upgrades and Modernization
Encinitas, CA
Encinitas Union School District
We worked closely with Encinitas Union School District on our Olivenhain Pioneer Elementary School Energy Upgrade project. The existing roof was upgraded to an Energy Star Cool Roof. The new mechanical units are SEER 15 and above, with two large units over SEER 20. Each classroom and space received new Solatubes and the electrical lights was converted to A/B switching with a photocell, which will turn the lights off when the skylights are bright enough. The site also benefits from the addition of photovoltaic panels, which offsets over 75% of the schools total power requirements. The project also included a landscape upgrade to edible and native plant materials, which will decreased the site water requirements by approximately 25%.
Sustainability
We approach sustainability with each individual organization in mind. No organization or school district should tackle sustainability without first developing a strategic intent. We work with each district to help them understand what they are doing, why they are doing it, and what their efforts are going to measure. Most importantly, sustainability requires commitment from the senior leadership team of the organization or district.
We pride ourselves on developing sustainable projects that are in-line with the goals of the District and that can be easily implemented by the staff. We do not do projects for feathers in our OR yours, but to convert operational dollars into educational dollars.
